JOB SUMMARY 


This position provides global 24/7/365 technical support, administration, and monitoring for Sql Server and Oracle databases used Vertiv systems.  This administrator must quickly resolve database performance, integrity, capacity, replication, and other distributed data issues. A strong background in indexing, performance tuning, and the ability to troubleshoot production environments quickly is required.  This position relies on extensive database experience and judgment to both accomplish goals and provide high database uptime and performance. 


 


RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Provide direct technical support for development, QA, staging, reporting, and   production database instance

  • Design, implement, and support small (<1 GB), moderate (1 - 100 GB), and large databases (100 GB - multi-terabyte)

  • Create new tables, views, indexes, scheduled jobs, triggers, logins, etc. based on system specifications.

  • Write T-SQL administrative scripts to automate both user and administrative processes

  • Ability to both design and implement end-to-end enterprise reporting and transactional database systems, including data structures, stored procedures, and error handling

  •   Create and execute database backup and recovery policies

  •   Ensure validity of database backups on a regular basis

  •   Manage storage environments for all databases, including planning for additional storage, maintaining optimal sizing, monitoring space, and providing growth statistics

  •   Maintain integrity and reliability of data access

  •   Collect information through traces and other logging facilities

  •   Maintain security of database instances (Active Directory and/or standard SQL authentication)

  •    Configure and schedule indexing, index statistics, and column-based statistics 

  •    Troubleshoot production environments quickly with an emphasis on root cause analysis

  •    Assess and implement new SQL Server technologies where appropriate

  •    Create and Administrate Oracle Rman Backups and recover to Test environments. 

  •    Collect database requirements, provide solutions and recommendations for new schema, infrastructure, or architecture 

  •    Identify and implement innovative and cost-effective SQL Server environment configurations

  •    Create logical and physical data models for custom application database implementations   

  •    Support fault tolerant (clustered) and standalone SQL Server database environments on both physical and virtual platforms

  •    Install, configure, and tune SQL Server default, named (standalone), and named (clustered) database instances

  •    Perform and validate schema changes through development, QA, staging, reporting, and production environments     

  •   Perform routine DBA activities such as patching, rollbacks, security, and database migrations

  •    Perform routine capacity management analysis (processor, memory, local disk, and shared disk)

  •    Apply database upgrades in a proper and timely manner

  •    Implement and configure third-party monitoring tool(s) and/or adequate customized solution(s) covering all supported database instances; serves to proactively monitor database/server health and alert DBA(s) of both warning and critical database/server events and conditions      

  •    Collect database requirements and provide solutions and recommendations for new schema, infrastructure, or architecture 

  •    Design and troubleshoot ETL packages in Business Intelligence Development Studio     

  •   Serve as backup to all database and middleware instances

  •   Committed to continuously developing database architecture skills

  •   Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses

  •   Provide long-term perspectives on the relationship of database technology to   strategic business initiatives

  •   Proactively seek continuous improvement within and across Vertiv IS\IT

  •   Manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently

  •   Build and enforce database change management, security standards, and best    


  


QUALIFICATIONS:


 



  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be willing to be on call 24/7/365

  • Must be willing to carry a corporate-issued mobile device to field off hour calls and server alerts

  • 4+ years work experience configuring and troubleshooting Windows and Unix clusters 

  • 4+ years work experience configuring and troubleshooting SQL Server and Oracle

  • 4+ years work experience configuring and troubleshooting database instances hosted on VMware virtual servers

  • 4+ years work experience in SQL Server Reporting Services administration

  • 4+ years work experience configuring and troubleshooting SQL Server Replication

  • 4+ years work experience in SQL Server Integration Services development, troubleshooting, and administration

  • 4 year degree in Information Systems/IT or an equivalent combination of course work and job experience 

  • 10+ years work experience in IT

  • 8+ years work experience in database administration handling small (<1 GB), moderate (1 - 100 GB), and large databases (100 GB - multi-terabyte)
