I.Β PURPOSE
Controls the flow of stock through a warehouse, monitoring goods in and out, safely, and efficiently moving and handling items and keeping stock records. Warehouse Assistants are employed to make sure the process runs smoothly.
II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Allocates storage space to goods.
- Relocates and re-stacks goods to make space for a new delivery.
- Keeps records (often computerized) of goods, their location and quantity.
- Picks goods that have been ordered.
- Keeps records of goods which have been picked.
- Prepares dispatch notes and labels.
- Moves and stacks goods ready for delivery, either by hand or using machinery.
- Maintains the warehouse in a tidy state and clears away packing material and debris.
- Uses computerized systems, barcode scanners and other technology to record goods movement.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
A. Minimum Education
- At least 2-year diploma course.
B. Minimum Experience/Training
- 2-4 years of experience (full training is usually provided on the job).
- Knowledge of a warehouse environment, experience of manual handling or a background in logistics is likely to be advantageous.
C. Competency
- Driver's license
- Forklift driving license
- Knowledge in Excel, MS, ERP, specifically SAP.Β
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
There is a significant manual element to the job, so a degree of fitness, stamina and, to a lesser extent, physical strength is required.
