Responsibilities
- Conducting legal research to gather relevant information, statutes, regulations, and case law that may be pertinent to a case or legal issue.
- Assisting in the preparation, drafting, and review of legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, briefs, and other legal correspondence.
- Organizing and managing case files, maintaining legal databases, and ensuring that all documents are filed and organized properly.
- Interacting with clients, answering inquiries, and providing updates on case progress. However, legal assistants typically cannot provide legal advice independently.
- Assisting in the preparation and filing of legal documents with courts, administrative agencies, and other entities.
- Managing attorney calendars, scheduling appointments, court dates, and deadlines to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Providing general support to attorneys, such as preparing exhibits, conducting legal due diligence, and coordinating depositions or other legal proceedings.
- Proficiency in using legal research databases, case management software, and other tools commonly used in legal practice.
- Performing administrative duties, such as handling incoming calls, managing correspondence, and maintaining office supplies.
- Adhering to strict confidentiality standards, as legal assistants often have access to sensitive information.
- Staying informed about changes in laws, regulations, and legal procedures through continuing education and professional development.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Bilingual: English/Spanish.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional working experience.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve a variety of technical issues.
- Excellent problem-solving and customer service
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Customer-focused mindset and natural ability to build relationships with clients.
